NewsThe Museology Research Lab at the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece, and its members and partners produce and support research in museology, museum studies and heritage / cultural studies. The Lab is part of Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology at the Ionian University, Corfu, Greece.
Championing Research for Museums, Monuments and Culture Our strategic priorities include openness, collaboration, participation, inclusiveness, extroversion, green development, respect for humanity and nature. Our lab adheres to the directions of the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and UNESCO. We aim at establishing productive synergies and collaborations at local, national and international levels with research institutions, universities and cultural organizations and units.
The Lab’s mission is research in the wider spectrum of museology with interdisciplinary approaches, focusing on museums, monuments, heritage and cultural assets, tangible and intangible. We conduct research in museology, history of museums, museography, preservation, restoration and employment of cultural assets, museum education, management of museums, monuments and collections, museum ethics, heritage management and interpretation, new and digital technologies in museums, monuments and culture, heritage and museum documentation, heritage-related data science, heritage Big Data, etc.
The Laboratory’s activities include attending the Department of Archives, Library Science and Museology and the Ionian University’s research and educational needs in the related fields. This includes supporting under- and post- graduate courses, specialised seminars, theses and dissertations supervision, doctoral and post-doc research. Furthermore, the MRL-IU cares for the training and the continuous professional development (CPD) education of students and professionals. The MRL-IU is committed to spreading knowledge and innovation for the benefit of society. To this end, we organise lectures and events, and respond to the research and advisory needs of social, administrative and market entities.
